Sako L579 Forester Varmint Rifle .243 Win

A 1970s Sako L579 Forester Varmint in .243 Winchester, serial number 307446, with a 23-inch medium-weight barrel and a walnut stock. The bolt-action rifle carries a Leupold 24X scope, and the supplier grades it excellent overall.

A 24-power scope on a medium barrel is a setup for still shooting at distance: a bench, a prone position, or a blind over an open Hill Country pasture. The .243 is a centerfire cartridge, clearing the Texas bar on rimfire for deer, and the North Zone general season, which takes in Bexar County, runs November 7, 2026 to January 3, 2027 with a late season January 4 to 17. Its name and barrel point first at varmints, and that is where the high magnification earns its keep between deer seasons. The walnut stock and excellent grade make it a rifle to look after. Read the county page in the Outdoor Annual for bag limits before hunting.
