This Belgian percussion revolver is a presentation piece in 43 caliber with a 6 5/8-inch octagon barrel marked F KINAPEN A LIEGE and a crown-over-Z proof; overall length is about 12.5 inches. The barrel keeps roughly 95 percent of its bright blue with edge wear and light spotting, the cylinder about 90 percent with one area of loss, and the engraved frame, straps and trigger guard are blue-brown. The bore is excellent with strong rifling, and the major parts carry the number 10.
The finely checkered European walnut grips have no cracks or chips, the action works single and double, and a left-side safety holds the hammer off the caps. A silver plate on the butt records its gift to Captain Paxton from Colonel Lapinski in 1863; Lapinski was a Polish cavalry officer who served in the Hungarian revolution of 1848 and the Crimean War. For a Texas collector this is a documented, engraved revolver with its condition stated plainly.
