A rare Smith & Wesson large-frame Volcanic pistol carrying serial number 40. The barrel keeps traces of its original finish, with spots of light pitting that the supplier describes as very minor. The frame is factory engraved and the engraving is still sharp. The grips are excellent, and the action works as it should.

This is a collector's handgun, and a two-digit serial number is the kind of detail serious collectors look for. It is not a gun for carry or home defense; its place is a display case or a safe. Because it is listed as a handgun, it goes through the same dealer process in Texas as any modern pistol: photo identification, Form 4473 and the federal NICS check, with no state permit, registration or waiting period on top. A current Texas License to Carry may be shown in place of the check. The federal age floor for a handgun purchase is 21.
