Serial 52857 is a pre-war Smith & Wesson Registered Magnum chambered in .357 Magnum, built in 1937 with a 6.5-inch barrel. At some point the metal was refinished, and it carries a wide-spur target hammer plus a set of custom Fuzzy Farrant combat grips; fitting those grips meant clipping the front corner of the grip frame, which has been done on this gun. Condition is excellent overall, and the revolver shows little use after the refinish.
The paperwork is part of the package. A factory letter records shipment to Marshall Field and Co. in Chicago, and copies of the correspondence between that store and the factory come with it, along with background material on Farrant and his grip work. In Texas a used handgun like this transfers through a licensed dealer with photo identification and Form 4473; a current Texas License to Carry can stand in for the NICS check at the counter, and there is no state waiting period to hold it up.
